Training in Concentration: How to Attain Tranquil Abiding
Saturday, September 26th
10:00 am – 4:15 pm
with Resident Teacher Matthew Stein
About the Course
“With effort it is not difficult to attain a mind that can remain for a short time on one object single-pointedly without distraction…Actual tranquil abiding is attained only by improving this mind.” – Joyful Path of Good Fortune, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Do you meditate regularly, or have you at least tried to meditate?
Whenever we practice meditation, whether or not our meditation is clear, we are performing a virtuous mental action that is a cause of our future happiness and peace of mind. We can further enhance the benefits of our meditation practice by training in a special kind of concentration called tranquil abiding. By training to improve our concentration we will be able to remain undistracted for longer and longer, without losing quality in our meditations. Training in concentration also produces a physical and mental suppleness which makes our body light and free of tension and helps to eliminate mental disturbances.
In this special day course, Resident Teacher Matthew Stein will introduce the basics of how to get started with meditation and how to progress in our practice by improving our concentration and training in tranquil abiding. For those who are interested, Matthew will explain how to use the teachings from this course to prepare for the Tranquil Abiding Retreat the weekend of November 13th – 15th.
Can I attend if I am new to meditation?
Yes! This course is suitable for all levels.
