weekly meditation classes for all levels
Weekly Classes
Odiyana Center offers meditation classes that are open to everyone; you don’t have to be Buddhist or have any special experience or background. The classes resonate with a lot of people because they provide very practical methods for finding peace, happiness and meaning in the midst of busy modern daily life. The classes also give effective ways of helping others and dealing with many of the problems in the world today.

Sundays in April | 11:00am–12:15pm
Sunday Morning Meditation – The Art of Acceptance
Sundays | 11:00 am – 12:15 pm
With Resident Teacher Matthew Stein
Held in-person at Odiyana Buddhist Center, Glastonbury, CT (Available via Livestream to Center Members)
About the Class
Acceptance, or patient acceptance, is a special state of mind through which we can relate to our unhappiness, anger and conflict, in an open, creative way. When acceptance arises in our heart it frees us up from our mental tension and stress, and allows our natural happiness and courage to surface. In this series, through contemplation and guided meditations, we will come to experience the healing qualities of this special mind, and learn how to apply it practically in our daily life.
Special Prayers called Prayers for World Peace will be included during the last class of each month.
The Teacher
Matthew has practiced and taught Kadampa Buddhism and meditation for many years under the guidance of many senior teachers of the New Kadampa Tradition.
Matthew previously lived at the Kadampa World Peace Temple in New York where he engaged in in-depth study and retreat, and in 2023 he completed the Intensive Teacher Training Program at Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre in Northern England. Matthew teaches from the heart in a clear, warm and relaxed way, that is always practical and relevant to our daily lives.

Wednesday in April | 7:00-8:15pm
Training in Emptiness
Wednesdays | 7:00 – 8:15 pm
With Resident Teacher Matthew Stein
Held in-person at Odiyana Buddhist Center, Glastonbury, CT (Available via Livestream to Center Members)
About the Class
Emptiness is the word used by Buddha to describe the ultimate nature of reality. It is not a nihilistic nothingness, but rather an experience of freedom from limitation that allows us to let go of our painful ways of relating to ourselves and the world. It is a source of joy, creativity and healing that we can all tap into at any time. Through meditating on emptiness we can quickly become the person we wish to be, and we open ourselves to our potential for complete liberation and enlightenment.
Everybody is welcome to attend this series in which Resident Teacher Matthew will guide us into a practical experience of the meditation on emptiness, and show us how to integrate it into our own daily life. For those wishing to attend the upcoming US Festival, this primer will be invaluable. Classes are self-contained. Join us for any or all classes in the series!

About the Class
Be kind to yourself by taking care of your mind. You will learn and practice simple meditations that allow you to develop and maintain a calm, clear mind. This clarity of mind naturally leads to an inner experience of peace and well-being. When our mind is peaceful, we can approach all situations with a more confident, positive and relaxed attitude.
You will leave each class with simple methods that you can apply to your own practice both in formal meditation and in daily life.
Everyone is welcome!
